CF and The Support Center Offer Financial Management Training Program

Children's Futures and The Support Center of Trenton are offering a free Financial Management Training Program featuring workshops customized for small and mid-size nonprofits in Trenton. Nonprofit organizations completing the Financial Management Training Program will be provided with follow-up technical assistance from Children's Futures.

Developed with input from Trenton nonprofits, the series includes six half-day workshops which will be held from mid-November 2007 to mid-January 2008. The goal is to provide executive directors, finance staff and board members of Trenton non-profit organizations with the practical skills and information they need to:

  • comply with basic financial requirements;
  • maintain complete financial records;
  • develop timely financial statements for internal management and external reporting;
  • prepare reasonable, useful program and organizational budgets;
  • understand and manage cash flow;
  • safeguard assets through a practical internal accounting control system appropriate to their agency's size;
  • prepare for an audit;
  • interpret financial information as part of the decision-making process;
  • fulfill fiduciary responsibilities (board members); and
  • access available community resources to support an organization's financial management needs (i.e. bankers, bookkeepers).

To apply for the program, go to http://www.supportcenteronline.org/childrens-futures-form.php. Please register by October 26, 2007. Addressing Partner and Family Violence

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Through Womanspace's Project SAFE (Safety Assessments for Everyone), CF centers and other partner agencies are receiving new print and multi-media resources this month to help staff members address prevention of abuse and violence in the families they serve. In addition, on November 2nd at a Domestic Violence Summit, nationally respected researcher Jacquelyn C. Campbell, PhD, returns to New Jersey to present new research on family violence and violence against women. She is the Anna D. Wolf Chair and Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs in the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing. Dr. Campbell's research results are used as the basis for health policy recommendations to state, national and international organizations. Courtney Esposito of Womanspace will be leading a Trenton contingent to the Domestic Violence Summit which is open to all Children's Futures' partners (information may be found in the Community Activities section below). More information about Womanspace is available at http://womanspace.org/ or by calling (609) 394-0136.
