THE HALPERN FAMILY FOUNDATION DONATES $10,000 TO CHILDREN’S FUTURES
Grant supports programs for children and new ‘Friends of Children’s Futures’ group

Trenton, NJ (July 24, 2009) – Children’s Futures announced today a $10,000 grant from The Halpern Family Foundation.  The grant will help support health and wellness programs for Trenton families delivered through CF partner agencies throughout the city.  Importantly, this grant will help bring into fruition a longstanding goal of CF to build a network of individual advocates and supporters (named “Friends of Children’s Futures”) to sustain CF’s vision for every child in Trenton to get a fair start in life, beginning at birth, and enter school healthy and ready to learn.

Like most nonprofits, Children’s Futures relies heavily upon private foundations and governmental funding for support. The newly formed Friends group is to establish a base of individual donors, as well as volunteers and other contributors who want to support CF’s vision.

“This support is especially meaningful because it’s from a local family foundation and from someone who knows Children’s Futures well. It’s a great testament to and belief in the notion that local agencies can set aside differences and work together to prevent health and other problems from occurring among vulnerable children, instead of working separately to fix children’s problems after they have taken root” said Children’s Futures’ President Floyd K. Morris Jr. “This grant will be used for existing programs for children and families as well as help open the door for many new supporters of our efforts.  We are especially grateful to our long-time friend and supporter, Christine M. Grant, J.D MBA, for spearheading support for development of this new Friends of Children’s Futures group.”

Ms. Grant, who serves as both the treasurer and secretary for the Halpern Family Foundation, has a long history of helping those in need.  She has held many leadership roles throughout her career, including serving as New Jersey Commissioner of Health and Senior Services.  A founding member of Children’s Futures Board of Directors in 2001, Ms. Grant says “as a past Board Chair for Children’s Futures, I thought it important to work with the staff to create a group of committed Friends of Children’s Futures who will help with volunteer time and efforts to strengthen the program’s regional contacts and supporters.  We’re pleased to make this small step in that effort.”

“Children’s Futures’ continues to be one the best investments we can make in our capital city and a cause that we are proud to be supporting,” noted Ms. Grant. “During my service as both a member and chair of the Children’s Futures’ Board of Directors, I witnessed from the program’s inception the dramatic difference Children’s Futures has made in Trenton in bringing together dozens of organizations to help children get off to the best possible start in their lives. I am repeatedly inspired by the scope and impact of this exceptional initiative.”

About Children’s Futures

Children’s Futures Inc. (CF) is a nationally recognized, Trenton, New Jersey-based nonprofit organization created to improve health and developmental outcomes for children. As a major catalyst for change, CF also advocates for important policy initiatives to improve maternal and child health; convenes local stakeholders to model best practices on early childhood development; provides technical assistance and training for service providers; and serves as a clearinghouse of objective child health information.
