Children’s Futures offers free Doula services to women of color

Children’s Futures’ (CF) Trenton Community Doula Program has been established to respond to the high rates of Black Infant Mortality in Trenton.  Its expressed goal is to reduce this phenomenon by working with at-risk women of color in the Trenton community providing them with individually tailored prenatal, labor and delivery, and postpartum care.

The program was started in 2018 with funding from the Department of Health.  Subsequent funding for the program was received from the Nicholson Foundation in 2019.

The program provides each mom with a Doula.  A Doula is a skilled, certified individual that provides emotional, physical and informational support to expectant moms and their partners from inception throughout the full birthing cycle.  Doulas provide their clients with information about the birth process, training on a variety of comfort measures and coping skills, and common birthing procedures.

Currently, CF has 16 Doulas of color to meet the needs of the women they serve.  Since December 2018, CF has provided services to over 100 women.

Please contact Ashley Neblett at (609) 695-1977, if you would like to have Doula services to support you through your pregnancy.

Children’s Futures Doula Graduation Ceremony

Children’s Futures proudly hosted a beautiful and inspiring Doula Graduation Ceremony at B2 Bistro, honoring 40 newly trained doulas. The event was a heartfelt celebration of the commitment and sacrifice these individuals have made to improve maternal and infant health outcomes in our community.
Hosted by Doula Supervisor Ashley Neblett, the evening highlighted the unwavering dedication of both the doulas and Children’s Futures to combating maternal and infant mortality. Our Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Dynell Kellyman, delivered powerful remarks underscoring the organization’s ongoing commitment to supporting families during the most critical stages of life.
We were honored to welcome Alaina Snell as our esteemed guest speaker. Her captivating address reflected her leadership and advocacy in maternal health and her pivotal role, alongside Children’s Futures, in launching New Jersey’s Doula Pilot Programs.
The ceremony was filled with emotional stories, personal reflections, and shared triumphs, making it an unforgettable evening for all in attendance. It served as a powerful reminder of the impact compassionate, community-based support can have on the health and well-being of mothers and babies alike.
