CF spearheaded the first-ever survey of Child Health in Mercer County with a particular focus on Trenton. During 2011 Children’s Futures also provided ongoing input and guidance to a variety of organizations like The Trenton Health Team, The Trenton Planning Board, The State Advisory Committee on Childhood Obesity, The Mercer County Youth Services Commission, The Trenton West Ward Alliance, The Christina Seix Foundation, The Trenton Partnership for Healthy Kids, The Trenton Domestic Violence Committee, The Interconceptional Learning Community, The Fetal Infant Mortality Review, The Trenton Housing Authority, The New Jersey Reach Out and Read Office, The Trenton Stakeholders’ Group and The Trenton Council of Civic Associations.
The community also received information on available child and family resources through the updated electronic resource directory on CF’s website.
Thousands of Trenton Children and families also benefited from the new, age and culturally appropriate toys and books received from Children’s Futures’ 11th Annual Community Holiday Toy and Book Drive.

Community Education & Awareness

A universal prenatal risk assessment screening form for pregnant women to better detect maternal high risk factors earlier in pregnancy, now used statewide as a result of Children’s Futures convening and work with five Medicaid Managed Care Plans.

More than 1,000 nonprofit agency representatives from the health, education, social service fields and journalists increased their knowledge of collaboration, culturally appropriate practices, early brain development, fetal alcohol syndrome, domestic and interpersonal violence’s impact on children, and reporting on children’s health and development issues through participation at our forums and conferences.

Children’s Futures technical assistance to local nonprofits resulted in dozens of agencies’ improving their financial management systems.

Toy and Book Drive

Over 40,000 toys and books collected and distributed for area children and families through Children’s Futures Annual Holiday Toy and Book Drive.

Community Events

Sincere 2001, Children’s Futures supported more than two dozen child and family-focused commuity events by local nonprofits for programs ranging from improving after-school activities to promoting excellence in fatherhood.

More than 200 volunteers participated in two separate “Community Days of Outreach” resulting in more than 3,000 homes receiving information about Children’s Futures programs and resources.

Meetings/Committees

Children’s Futures and our partner, the Central New Jersey Maternal Child Health Consortium will expand participation for Countywide entities in the Interconceptional Care Committee and other groups promoting healthy mothers and healthy babies.
